Honeywell is a pioneer in the field of wireless instrumentation for the process industry. Honeywell brought a programme of industrial wireless instruments to the market, as early as 2002. At that time there were no standards for industrial wireless systems yet. That is why the ISA (International Society of Automation), an organization of and by users and manufacturers, has developed the ISA100.11a standard for industrial wireless systems. In this standard, issues such as communication protocols, security encryption, interchangeability and scalability are set out to ensure a reliable system for the user. Another wireless standard is wireless HART, which uses the same 2.4 GHz frequency band, but is more limited in use. Honeywell is the only supplier in the world that allows the use of instruments on their OneWireless network, simultaneously according to the ISA100.11a as well as the wireless HART standard. The Honeywell wireless transmitters have redundant signal paths to the field device access points and can optionally operate as a router.
